You might need to change (raise) the pickup and ramp height over time as you learn to play softer. Developing a medium, instead of hard, touch gives you a fatter sound and the potential for a lot more dynamic playing.
Once you've adjusted the neck and string height, then you should set the pickup height.

Adjust the pickup so that it's close enough to keep you from "digging in" too much, but allows you to get the volume you want from your fingers.

Also check the string-to-string balance. If your string height follows the contour of the pickup, the volume of each string should be even. (the bigger strings will set up just slightly further from the pickup)

Once the pickup height is adjusted, then you can set up the ramp to match it...so...
